Small businesses in California can breathe a sigh of relief. The bill much despised California Internet tax has been presented to the next legislative session, and will not be until January 2010 at the earliest.
Many people hope that the recent economic disaster created a situation where Millions were in the bread lines. While many people are suffering, the assault has been more indirect, but definitely still a domino effect. How is that? The enormous wealth lost in the housing market has created a strong income cut property taxes in the countries. This has been left swimming in ink read and seeking all possible ways to raise money.
The State of California is a huge economic hole. With billions of dollars of debt books, the government has begun to throw around all sorts of ideas to raise taxes including the legalization of marijuana. Another controversial idea has been the prospect Recovery of taxes off the web, a prospect that greatly hurt small businesses.
Known as AB 178, the bill is a murderer business. The project aims to make the retailers pay state taxes in California. California, of course, has no jurisdiction over these retailers. To overcome this, the bill is that any retailer who places an ad on a publisher who is based in California [and get a sale] going to submit to the jurisdiction. Once in the jurisdiction, these sites would have to pay sales tax to California in all sales involving California residents.
This Bill is the rebellious spirit against the amazing-productive. Why? It will destroy tens of thousands of small businesses in the state. How so? The Most of these companies are making money through affiliate sales on the web. This bill obsolete programs such as retailers walking program membership. Note that these retail sites can make direct sales to California residents and not pay any sales tax, why do address the problem of affiliates?
A similar bill was passed in New York. As in California, New York was looking for new revenue. Guess what happened? More than 3,500 affiliate programs affiliates canceled their accounts in New York. AB 178 is off the table for now, but not forever. It may be that politicians in California will address the new measure in an effort to increase the income of massive spending plans.
