Whenever you are making constant changes to your site, it is important to realize that any change in the search engines are not instantaneous. So if your address on your pages then the search engines take a while to update with the new URL's. Yet still keep the old URL indexed for some time.
What this means is that anyone who finds the old URL will receive a 404 (not found page) Error.
Why not take a look now and see if there are any pages on your site that are indexed in search engines that have removed some times ago? using the site: command yoururlhere.com.
What if you could monetize those visitors in place give them an error page?
First lets rule out the Google AdSense program is specifically against their CDS out on purpose AdSense on 404 error pages.
There are a number of options available:
1. Redirecting original page to your new content
2. Having a custom 404 error screen Page.
3. Redirect to the main page of your site (which could be noted, however, as the cover).
4. Use of 301 addresses so that old pages are redirected to new ones.
Remember that although visitors are shown a page 404, is still reach your site through a link of age or older senders. So we are still targeted to your niche. I think the most effective form of redirection is to return to section of your site, can do this with a 301 redirect, which is not permanent.
Another option is to use affiliate links in its 404 pages, perhaps remove the 404 page not found error and replace text with an ad directed. This is likely to have a high CTR and conversions will depend on your niche.
Remember, 404 pages need not be a burden to make changes to your site.
